Communication Tools
Otherwise known as computer-mediated
communication, or CMC for short, electronic
communication tools. These are the simplest of the
collaborative computer facilitated tools. CMC deals with
only the communication aspect of collaboration. Hence, a
full web conferencing suite is needed to have
synchronous and/or asynchronous management of the
communication.
There are different types of
communication tools to choose from, depending on one's
needs and wants. The common CMC tools are:
The most successful of these has
undoubtingly been e-mail. If the web made the Internet
popular, e-mail made it useful. A main characteristic of
these tools is whether they are synchronous (instant)
and/or asynchronous (delayed). Regardless, any decent
web conferencing system will have some kind of
communication toolset built-in.
