Conference Calls

E-mail
Electronic
mail is the killer application of the Internet and one
of the simplest of electronic communication tools. While
at first glances, it may appear that e-mail is regulated
to the realm of CMC,
in fact it has features of strict
web conferencing
and
collaborative management tools.
Through the
use of mass mailings, supported by an external
application and/or the (blind)
carbon
copy destination field, mailing or discussion lists
can be created through the e-mail application. The
Multipurpose
Internet
Mail
Extensions (MIME), describe mechanisms for the
transmission of non-ascii and binary data through
electronic mail, hence facilitating the sharing of
electronic documents in general, beyond the basic ascii
text file. E-mail, hence lends itself to these three key
features:
In conclusion,
e-mail is a robust, yet simple internet application,
that facilitates the bulk of
CMC. While it may
not be as powerful as the other collaborative tools that
are out there, it's simplicity makes it one that is
easily adopted. Which is why e-mail is the killer
application of the Internet.
